5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CARD, June 15, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: MSI Radeon HD7970, 3GB GDDR5, Mini DisplayPortx4, SL-DVI-I, SL-DVI-D, PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card R7970 Lightning (Personal Computers)
This is a well built card made for the enthusiast. Cost a bit more but I got my card to overclock to 1260mhz and demolishes games at 1440p. One thing I did not like is the card is very wide and I had to remove the GPU Reactor Cover(not the reactor itself) to install the card. So far very pleased with my purchase and plan to stick with MSI from now on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gigabyte 7970, March 7, 2012

This review is from: Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB GDDR5 DVI-I/HDMI/2x Mini-Displayport PCI-E 3.0 Graphics Card GV-R797OC-3GD (Personal Computers)
This thing is fantastic, and the memory cooling (much better than referance) allowed me to OC memory to 1800. Now since this isn't binned, I got unlucky, my core only goes to 1180 stable, but I'm perfectly content with it.

The card stays really cool, much cooler than my old lightening 6970. Me posting my own values is worthless because you guys will have different case setups etc.

Regardless, my maximum temps at 1625mv memory, 1200mv Core 1180mh core and 1800mhz memory are 62-3 degrees peaking with powerdraw unlocked with 100% gpu load and 100% fan speed. This is probably pulling something ridiculous like 300w. On BF:3 MAX 100% settings it stays at 59% fan speed, and never goes above 56 degrees Celsius. Just for referance, at my OC I get a minimum of 55 fps and a maximum of 78 fps infantry on a 64 player map on back to karkand (BF:3). In a jet it goes way over 120, but it's normally around 62-5fps during infantry gun battles. In a heli it can dip to 44 fps when... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Temps, Gorgeous Graphics, Low Power Consumption....What Else Can You Ask For?, April 21, 2012

This review is from: Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB GDDR5 DVI-I/HDMI/2x Mini-Displayport PCI-E 3.0 Graphics Card GV-R797OC-3GD (Personal Computers)
This graphics card performs absolutely astounding. Honestly I've thrown everything at it and so far it's amazing satisfying results that have exceeded all my expectations and I highly recommend this card for it's cooling system alone.

I originally had this Radeon 6950 XFX ATI Radeon HD6950 2 GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/2x Mini-Displayport PCI-Express Video Card HD695XCDFC and the dual fan technology was doing some amazing things to the temperature and it was giving some great temps under load, Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, The Witcher 2 at close to max settings and it never went passed 80c. This 7970 however has not even passed 50c under even more demanding conditions!!! It's crazy. I won't talk about performance here because of the amount of benchmarks readily available online. I was very very lucky that I won this card in a Gigabyte... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A great video card!, March 4, 2012

This review is from: Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB GDDR5 DVI-I/HDMI/2x Mini-Displayport PCI-E 3.0 Graphics Card GV-R797OC-3GD (Personal Computers)
I got this video card while building my first computer (well, first computer built by me that is)... Its a great video card and it runs cool. I know the reviews talk about the loud fan noise but the sound is actually covered up by my heatsink fans. The card is fast and works great and I did not see the need to overclock it for my needs. I would recommend it to anyone, however keep in mind that Nvidia is supposedly releasing a new video card to compete with the Radeon HD7970 this month (March 2012). A word of warning to potential buyers and owners of this card. I experienced a lot of freezing of the computer with this card particularly with playing games and watching videos on the internet (like youtube). The problems is with the Asus motherboard bios, it needed to be updated and I have not had any problems afterward.

The video card comes to the Catalyst drivers CD, two molex to 6/8 pin connectors, and a crossfire link. People complain that there isn't anything else... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive card, June 13, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Diamond AMD Radeon HD 7970 PCIE 3G GDDR5 Video Graphics Card 7970PE53G (Personal Computers)
Impressive describes this card. Only thing I have that can stress this card is playing Crysis 2, DirectX 11 patch, high-resolution pack, all settings cranked to the max available. No abnormalities or slowdowns on any of the levels as long as I keep the card temperature down. Heaven DX11 Benchmark runs flawlessly without any issues, even with the fan sitting at default idle speed.

From card running at idle to full load underneath Crysis 2, the total wattage increase is only 200 watts. At idle it seems to draw 10 watts more than the ATI 5770 card it replaced.

Card has over twice the raw thru put of the previous card it replaced but the GPU rendering in Sony Vegas only improved 20% which indicates the drivers need serious work to improve it. Photoshop CS identifies the ATI OpenCL drivers and gives full GPU acceleration.

Sitting at idle, the card temperature is 57C while the motherboard and CPU are sitting at 85F! Default fan speed is to slow and... Read more

Runs perfect and at 1125/1575 clocks all day without any voltage adjustment. Package came with two important cables that are usually not shipped with any cards except Sapphire. Overall my first Diamond card and a very pleasant experience. 10/10.

I have never been a "fanboy" of any company, just a lover of computer hardware and tech. I have probably 12 video cards spanning the last 2 years in my computers here. I purchased this Diamond 7970 3GB card last week from Amazon and have never been happier. Overclockers will be overjoyed...I have this thing overclocked from 925MHz core to 1200 with NO voltage increase, stable! It runs cool, quiet (although I stuck a nice EK waterblock on it). They did everything right with this card. Do yourself a favor and pick one up!

I am waiting for these to get back in stock so I can buy two more, no joke. This is coming from a guy with 3 x 3GB 580s in his other rig:)

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Johnny
